LOS ANGELES — The man involved in the shooting of Lady Gaga's dog walker during a robbery last year was sentenced Monday to 21 years in prison, officials said. James Howard Jackson, 20, pleaded no contest to the attempted murder charge and was immediately sentenced to prison, NBC Los Angeles reported. In August, almost four months after he was mistakenly freed from custody in Los Angeles, Jackson was captured and arrested in Palmdale, a city north of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. Those charges were dropped with the plea entered Monday, NBC Los Angeles reported. Eric Leonard reported from Los Angeles, Antonio Planas reported from New York.
A tech entrepreneur in Texas wasn’t given ample time to drop a rifle he was carrying on his own front porch before he was fatally shot by police last month, his devastated family told NBC News. The caller said the police were on scene and the man fired again, police said. Police identified the officer who fired at Moonesinghe as Daniel Sanchez, who is now on administrative leave. Immediately after telling Mr. Moonesinghe to drop the gun, Officer Sanchez fired his Department approved firearm at Mr. Moonesinghe. … It looks like he’s pointing the rifle at the interior of his home.”The caller then alerts the dispatcher that the man fired the rifle.
An 82-year-old woman in Alabama was arrested this week after failing to pay her delinquent trash bill, authorities said. Code enforcement officers tried to call Menefield several times and attempted to contact her at her home, the statement said. When Menefield failed to appear in court, a warrant for “Failure to Pay-Trash” was issued, the statement said. Menefield has a history of failing to pay her trash bill, according to Reynolds’ statement. Her trash services were suspended three times in the past two years, and there have been more than 22 incidents of suspensions and revocations of trash services since 2006, the statement said.

The death of a pilot who fell out of a twin-engine plane in North Carolina in July was an accident, according to his autopsy report. The autopsy said the plane then encountered turbulence and Crooks told the pilot he was not feeling well. Crooks declared an emergency and coordinated with air traffic controllers at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, according to the report. After Crooks fell from the plane, the commanding pilot alerted air traffic controllers and went searching for Crooks, the report says. I think he got that when he was a sophomore,” Crooks told the station.
Two officers involved in the fatal shooting of a Colorado man who called 911 for help after his SUV got stuck this summer have been indicted by a county grand jury and fired from their jobs, officials said. The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office said that following Wednesday's indictment, it had terminated the employment of both Buen and Gould. Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman, died Thursday shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, according to his representatives. Conroy’s deep and raspy voice shot him to stardom as the title character in "Batman: The Animated Series," which ran from 1992 to 1996, according to a statement provided by his spokesperson. He became the quintessential voice of the superhero in almost 60 different productions and video games, including 15 films, highlighted by "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm." Hurricane Nicole may have unearthed a Native American burial site dating back hundreds of years on a Florida beach, authorities said. Six skulls and other smaller bones turned up on Chastain Beach on South Hutchinson Island, said Martin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy John Budensiek. The bones of Native Americans were discovered in the area after Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and Hurricane Dorian in 2019. If the site is a Native American burial site, it is federally protected, and criminal charges will be pursued against anyone who tries to disturb the area, Budensiek said. A New Jersey man who allegedly wrote an antisemitic diatribe and shared it online, prompting a public warning last week from the FBI, was arrested Thursday, federal officials said. Prosecutors said Alkattoul wrote in the document that “I am the attacker" and "I did target a synagogue." The threat prompted the FBI last Thursday to issue a public warning to New Jersey synagogues. “Upon receipt of threat information against an unspecified New Jersey area synagogue, the FBI notified community leaders and our law enforcement partners,” the FBI Newark said in a statement on Friday. Phil Murphy said in a statement Friday that while the specific threat may be mitigated, officials will remain vigilant amid a wave of antisemitism.
The mayor of a small Louisiana town who was running for re-election was killed in a car crash on Election Day, authorities said. A town sign boasts it is the “Catfish Capital of Louisiana.” Melville is about 130 miles northwest of New Orleans. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 190 near Louisiana Highway 741, police said. Qualifying for the open mayor seat in Melville is open until Monday, and election will be held on Dec. 10, according to the statement. Candidates Sheila Londerno had 182 votes and Caretta Robertson received 171 votes, according to the clerk.
LOS ANGELES — A Louisiana woman has accused Hollywood legend Warren Beatty of coercing her into a sexual relationship when she was a teenager decades ago. Beatty is not identified by name in the suit, which did include a detailed description of the actor. The actor is accused of taking the teen on rides and offering to help with her homework. The relationship between the teen and the actor, who was about 35 at the time, continued and turned sexual, according to the suit. The teen thought she “was involved in a romantic relationship with a movie star," according to the lawsuit.

The FBI in New Jersey said Thursday it is investigating a “credible” and “broad threat” to synagogues in the state, and the governor said law enforcement are working to protect houses of worship. Officials with the Newark FBI announced the threat in a statement and told the public to stay alert. “The FBI has received credible information of a broad threat to synagogues in NJ. Phil Murphy said in a statement his office has been in contact with the state attorney general’s office, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the FBI. “We are closely monitoring the situation and are working with local law enforcement to ensure that all houses of worship are protected,” Murphy said.
Police in Oregon say they are investigating three credible reports of razor blades that were found inside Halloween candy. The first report of the blades inside a candy bar occurred on Halloween night, Eugene police Capt. “Thinking that was odd, they investigated a little more and opened the candy wrapper and found a razor blade, a small razor blade that was embedded inside the candy bar.”The razor blade, Harrison said, was about an inch and was similar to a blade in a manual pencil sharpener. On Tuesday, police received two other reports of razor blades inside candy, which apparently were also inserted inside the wrapper through a small slit, Harrison said. “We are lucky that nobody was hurt by these razor blades,” he said.

Unilever is recalling 19 dry shampoo products because of potentially elevated levels of benzene, a known carcinogen. They include dry shampoos from the brands Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TRESemmé and TIGI, which makes Rockaholic and Bed Head. A complete list of recalled products can be found here. Other aerosol products have been recalled in the past due to the presence of benzene, according to the nonprofit Environmental Working Group. Unilever said it has not received any reports of adverse reactions to the recalled products; rather, they are being recalled out of caution.
